Getting to know the arty lingo

We often get asked to explain the difference in Print Editions and other terminology used when talking about Kathryn’s products so what better excuse to put together an article talking all things Art!!
Open Edition Prints
As you may have guessed, open edition prints have no limitations on numbers and as a result they tend to be the most affordable option.

Their open nature allows Kathryn to print limitless quantities depending on demand.  You might also see the image used on other products, so for instance ‘Peekaboo’ is sold as an Open Ediiton Print but also features on a cushion cover and coaster.

Limited Edition Prints

A limited edition print is a professional quality printed copy of Kathryn’s Original Pouring.

This means the original has been scanned in at high resolution or photographed to capture the original colours and textures and formatted at specific sizes for printing on paper. Kathryn then works closely with her printer to select suitable paper and ensure that the colour reproduction matches as closely as possible to the original artwork. Kathryn also decides how many copies of the artwork she wants to ‘limit’ the print run to. Very often a run is limited to 195 copies.

Kathryn has both textured and smooth finishes to her Limited Editions.  The textured prints are hand embellished with a honey like gel which really adds the wow factor, emulating the original.  All Limited Edition Prints are signed, numbered and titled by Kathryn.

A certificate of Authenticity will accompany the print on sale to certify that it is indeed a limited edition.

Therefore If you own a Limited Edition you not only have something unique but also something that only up to 195 people in this world will have access to …. still pretty special!

Collector’s Edition Prints

These prints are closest to the Original Artwork as you can get!  Largest in size of all prints, they are hand embellished with a honey like gel and are titled, numbered & signed by Kathryn.  There are only 99 copies ever sold of the image.

A certificate of authenticity accompanies the print when sold.

To Mount or not to Mount

A Mount is card that surrounds the image, sitting between it and the frame.  Kathryn uses conservation grade double mounts which are acid free and will not yellow or discolour over time.  The mount gives your print breathing space and also acts to separate your artwork from the glass.

We hope this helps explain the various options when choosing your next Print.

Don’t forget about the option for Kathryn to write a personal message on any Open Edition.

We are always happy to answer any questions you may have…happy shopping!!
