Artists Inspiration

Its no secret that Kathryn produces striking birds, animals, landscapes and florals with an immense sense of movement and atmosphere. The use of thick honey like gel poured freely from above creates a sense of scale, depth and emotion.

In this blog we dig a little deeper with Kathryn to ask what inspires her artwork.

“It’s simple” begins Kathryn,  “I’m inspired daily by those Transient Moments that catch your eye.  Created by the movement of animals, the change in seasons or the power of nature, that last only a second or more, but last so much longer in our thoughts” says Kathryn.

”Take this picture of Portrush Harbour” continues Kathryn, “the formation of the clouds above are mirrored in the water below and as the clouds blow across the sky and change shape, the scene below changes too.  It’s beauty at its best”

“I’m captivated by colour, light and pattern.  All these elements are created naturally in the world around us and the beauty can be seen in almost anything” explains Kathryn.

”Whenever I am on holiday, a day trip or even in my back garden I try to capture these moments.  Whether it be a sunset behind a tree, a patterned reflection created by glass in the Studio, a bee landing on a flower or the sun on a butterfly’s wing; all these moments are equally stunning, but last only a short while”

Kathryn is renound for pouring birds and in these images we see her intention to capture the transient moment of take off or landing.  The essence of movement so powerful and emotive in each piece.

‘Dancers’ is another favourite subject for Kathryn.  “I try to capture elegance, power, rhythmn and movement all in one image.  Watching a Dancer’s body change shape mid air is wonderful and I hope that people viewing this collection can see the dancer’s journey to get into that position, and indeed out of it!

These short lived moments of beauty are all around us and they are Free!  Something as simple as rainfall nestled in a petal can shine like a diamond.

So, next time you are in your garden, living room or indeed anywhere look for those Transient Moments….
