The Brief
To create artwork for the newly refurbished and re-branded “Overwood” restaurant at Balloo House. The client wanted to encapsulate and reference the cooking over wood and preserve the beauty of the old brick walls.
Kathryn’s approach was to create semi-abstract pieces inspired by the cross sections of a tree trunk. The colours were chosen in consultation with the project architect to complement the interior finish of the restaurant.
Transparency in colour and substrate was vital here, as Kathryn chose a clear acrylic surface and semi-transparent inks for these pieces, which were designed to reveal the walls behind them.
