Like so many during Lockdown my friend Emma grabbed the opportunity to carry out some DIY and embarked on a renovation project to create a dining area.
Emma wanted to make a statement and asked me if I could paint a mural on a feature wall. We chatted through some ideas on subject matter and the creative juices started to flow. The renovation was part way through with walls needing plastered and new windows fitted so it wasn’t ready for me to get started. I knew that a wall mural wouldn’t lend itself to my signature technique of pouring, so I started experimenting on a large board.
It was late May and we were surrounded with the beauty of blossom trees. I don’t think I had realised before how short a window we had to enjoy these beautiful following branches with such pretty colours. I knew blossom would be the perfect subject allowing its beauty to be enjoyed all year round!
Time to hang it!
Emma loved the panel and couldn’t wait to get it up! It was agreed that the panel should not be glued to the wall, but secured using dado rail giving the traditional panelled effect. The benefit of using this method is that if Emma decides to move then the painting can be removed with no damage and be enjoyed in the next home unlike most wall murals.
The Panel is attached to the wall using spacers and dado rail to give the effect of panelling.
Emma then paired the mural with two side panels of antique mirror to highlight the panelled wall effect.

Doesn’t the finished wall look amazing. I am really delighted how beautiful my moveable wall mural has turned out.
