Wild Atlantic Calm

This piece was inspired by a trip I took along the Wild Atlantic Way, when I stumbled across a hidden beach tucked into the Irish countryside, the kind of place you only find when you take the smaller road and follow your curiosity. Although this scene is rooted in Donegal, it’s really a love letter to all of Ireland’s quiet coastal gems, those less-travelled corners where the world feels softer, the air feels cleaner, and time seems to stretch out a little longer.

With Wild Atlantic Calm, I wanted to capture that deep exhale that comes with discovery: the moment you realise you’ve found somewhere that feels like it belongs to you, even if you’ve only just arrived. It’s about stillness without emptiness, the hush of the shore, and that quiet joy of being somewhere unhurried, where the only agenda is to look, breathe, and remember.

Nestled into the landscape is a little cottage, a small nod to times gone by. For me, it represents the simple life so many of us yearn for: a place of warmth, shelter, and stories, standing steady against Atlantic skies. It adds a hint of nostalgia to the scene, reminding us that the most meaningful places aren’t always the busiest or the boldest… sometimes they’re the ones you nearly missed, the ones that stay with you long after you’ve driven on.
