Inspiration
This painting was inspired by one of Irelandโs simplest summer gifts: birdsong drifting over fields and hedgerows, so bright and effortless it can make you smile before you even realise youโve stopped to listen. Have you ever noticed it while exploring Ireland in the warmer months? For me, itโs pure imagination fuelโฆ a reminder that the landscape here doesnโt just look alive, it sounds alive too.
With this piece, my intention was to capture the energy of this remarkable little songbird and to help evoke your own happy memories of Ireland in summer. I canโt paint the song itself, but I wanted to paint the feeling it creates: that sense of lightness, rhythm, and quiet joy that hangs in the air long after the last note is gone.
If youโre lucky enough to spot a skylark, you may notice its small crested head and warm golden markings, subtle but unmistakable when the light catches them. Itโs such a unique bird, and to me it feels like the perfect emblem for Irelandโs blend of song, rhythm, beauty, and spiritโฆ something wild and free, but deeply tied to place.
